What an RSP is and why you need one

A new gTLD application must designate a registry service provider

HiTechCloud RSP.it.com – Registry Service Provider

Running a top-level domain — whether it is .brand of a company, or a shared gTLD — the application filed with ICANN must designate a Registry Service Provider (RSP): the party technically responsible for the entire domain lifecycle under that TLD.

In this new gTLD round, ICANN has separated the technical evaluation into a dedicated RSP evaluation program. The provider is evaluated in advance, and the TLD application simply references that result instead of proving everything again — which shortens the technical section of the application considerably.

RSP.it.com has passed this evaluation, and is both a member and a partner of HiTechCloud. The infrastructure operated by RSP.it.com currently serves more than 150,000 .it.com domains. Businesses in Vietnam work through HiTechCloud: scoping consultation, coordination on the technical part of the application, and support through to the TLD going live.

Solutions

Registry services within the backend scope

Covers the full set of service groups ICANN requires a registry to guarantee, plus day-to-day operation once the TLD is live.

SRS and the EPP protocol

A Shared Registration System with an EPP interface that lets registrars create, renew, transfer and delete domain names.

DNS and DNSSEC

An anycast resolution system operated by Netnod, with DNSSEC signing and key lifecycle management for the TLD zone.

RDAP and WHOIS

Registration data lookup over RDAP, with WHOIS for parties still dependent on the legacy protocol, and access permissions aligned with data protection rules.

Data escrow

Registration data is escrowed with DENIC on a regular basis as required by ICANN, ensuring the TLD can be recovered if the operator ceases operations.

Abuse handling

Monitor and act on abusive domains with iQ Global tooling: detection of phishing, malware, and unusual bulk registrations.

Operational reports and data

Registration, renewal, and registrar distribution figures, supporting both periodic ICANN reporting and the registry's business decisions.

Why choose HiTechCloud

Why choose this option

  • Technical assessment completed before you submit the application Naming a pre-evaluated RSP lets the technical section of a gTLD application reference existing evaluation results instead of demonstrating operational capability from scratch.
  • A newly written platform with no legacy code The system is built to current industry standards rather than patched onto a previous-generation platform, so it is straightforward to adapt to the specific requirements of each TLD.
  • A single point of contact for everything technical DNS, data escrow, and abuse handling are each run by specialist units but consolidated under one contract and one operational point of contact.
  • Direct partnerships, no intermediaries RSP.it.com is a member and partner of HiTechCloud, so technical requests go straight to the backend operations team instead of passing through several intermediate layers.
Process

Four steps from intent to operation

  1. 01

    Define the TLD scope

Clarify whether this is an internal .brand or a gTLD offered for sale, the expected number of domains and the distribution model through registrars.

  2. 02

    Finalize the technical solution

Agree on the registry services required, the SLA level, the anti-abuse policy and data compliance requirements.

  3. 03

    Complete the ICANN filing

RSP.it.com supplies the technical responses and supporting documentation; HiTechCloud carries out the review together with your legal team.

  4. 04

    Operations after delegation

Once the TLD is delegated into the root zone, the backend goes live: connecting registrars, opening sales and reporting to ICANN on a regular basis.

Use cases

Who typically needs this service

Corporations wanting their own .brand

Use your own brand name as the domain extension across all your websites and internal email.

Industry- or community-specific gTLDs

Operate a shared domain extension for an industry, association or geographic region.

Registry requiring a provider change

TLDs already in operation that want to move the backend to a new platform, with a plan for migrating data and DNS zones.

Registrars looking to expand

Registrars that want to enter the new TLD market and need to understand the registry-side infrastructure before committing.

New gTLD registration round is open

According to the RSP.it.com announcement, the application deadline runs to 12 August. If your business is considering its own TLD, talk to us early to allow time for the technical preparation.
