On 19 June 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, held the VNNIC Internet Conference 2026 under the theme “Deploying IPv6-Only – A driver for national digital infrastructure”.

Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (Bộ KH&CN) Pham Duc Long emphasized that after more than 30 years of development, the Internet is no longer just a connectivity tool but has become the foundation for economic and social activity, innovation, e-commerce, digital finance, online public services, and smart manufacturing.
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, big data, 5G and 6G networks and digital services is placing new demands on Internet infrastructure. The Internet must not only expand in scale but also renew its architecture and its operating model.
According to Deputy Minister Phạm Đức Long, IPv6-Only is the next stage in the Internet’s development, helping to build infrastructure that is more scalable, operates efficiently and securely, and is ready to meet new requirements.
The move to IPv6-Only is not only a technical upgrade; it also lays the infrastructure foundation for a new stage of national development in the digital era.
Acting VNNIC Director Nguyễn Trường Giang said that approximately 70% of Internet users in Vietnam now access the Internet via IPv6, with tens of millions of regular daily users. Vietnam's Internet infrastructure, telecommunications networks, digital services, and major online platforms are all ready for IPv6.
At the conference, delegates discussed issues related to the roadmap, technology, and practical experience of deploying IPv6-only; transition solutions aligned with the national roadmap; and directions for developing digital services tied to Internet resources in the new-generation Internet era.
At the event, VNNIC also published a set of criteria for measuring IPv6-only transition progress across government bodies, public institutions and businesses, providing a basis for assessing deployment progress and delivery of Vietnam's national IPv6 goals for 2026–2030.

On 27 October 2025, the Minister of Science and Technology issued Decision No. 3369/QĐ-BKHCN approving the Program to Promote IPv6-Only Deployment and Transition for 2026–2030. The program directs a coordinated shift of national Internet infrastructure to IPv6-only, driving innovation and integration with the global Internet ecosystem.
